| SENIOR AUDITOR General Job Description

| Administrative, technical and complex auditing work at a professional level in planning, developing and conducting audit programs for the Auditor of Accounts Office. These audits include the audit of the State's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Federal Single Audit. Duties include work on specific difficult portions of audits, providing liaison with other departments and technical assistance to others in the Office. Duties also include the analysis of evidence and information, the development of work-papers for support of the analysis, the write-up of findings and the provision of recommendations to correct discovered issues. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Assistant State Auditor.

| Minimum Qualifications
|
| KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of accounting and auditing theories, principles, and practices. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Knowledge of General Accountability Office (GAO) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) standards for audit of governmental organizations and private businesses. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to conduct independent audits of governmental units, agencies, or business entities. Ability to analyze accounting data and reports and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports of examinations. Ability to analyze and evaluate administrative, financial, or operational systems and controls. Ability to interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
Experience: Three years professional level accounting or auditing experience, and an additional minimum of two years within an auditing department of a public accounting firm, and additional government accounting experience preferred.
Professional Certification: License to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Vermont is required. A license to practice as a certified public accountant in another state may be substituted. This substitution may occur as long as the other state's certification requirements are comparable to the State of Vermont and the applicant meets the requirements to apply for a CPA license in the State of Vermont.
