State Auditor Tom Salmon will assist Attorney General with Isle LaMotte investigation
MONTPELIER -- State Auditor Tom Salmon, CPA, announced today that he will be assisting the Attorney General's Office in its investigation of the handling of public funds by the former Clerk and Treasurer of the Town of Isle LaMotte.
Salmon said that the Attorney General's Office requested the assistance of the State Auditor's Office earlier this week.
Isle LaMotte's Town Clerk and Treasurer Suzanne LaBombard resigned shortly after Town Meeting in early March, admitting to a Select Board member that she had misappropriated approximately $100,000 in funds over the last few years, according to published reports. The Town's General Fund cash receipts and disbursements are approximately $2 million per year, Salmon noted.
“We are committed to helping the Attorney General's Office on this matter with the hope that the information gained can help cities and towns throughout Vermont improve financial oversight and keep the confidence of their citizens,” Salmon said.
Salmon said his Office will shortly begin reviewing Town financial records and information currently in the State's possession. He said that future updates on the status of the investigation will come from the Attorney General's Office. ______________________
