Overview

The Vermont State Auditor's Office seeks a talented and energetic Staff Auditor II committed to improving and holding government accountable. We are a small, highly professional team engaged in performance auditing, with authority to examine all aspects of state government, including health care, human services, transportation, education, and public safety, among others.

The Staff Auditor II position requires:

• A general understanding of auditing concepts;
• Preparation of analyses of moderate complexity and formulation of conclusions supported by sufficient, appropriate documentary evidence;
• Strong organization and detailed documentation skills;
• Clear and concise communication abilities;
• The skill to manage and prioritize multiple tasks;
• The abilities to work independently and with a team; and
• A rigorous work ethic.

Preference may be given to candidates with a master's degree and with prior experience in performance auditing. The Vermont State Auditor's Office uses a range of data analysis tools. Performance auditing experience using data analysis tools would be valued.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting or in the field. Significant pressure from deadlines is present. Occasional in-state travel may be necessary, and incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Some overtime work may be required. Managing the audit to successful completion may heighten stress levels in order to meet tight deadlines. Some audit situations may assume a somewhat adversarial nature, requiring significant tact and persistence to complete a successful audit.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree with concentration in public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, political science equally pertinent field or a J.D. AND one (1) year or more of professional experience in auditing, consulting, policy analysis, or business or process analysis, such as that associated with information technology development, acquisition, or security.

OR

Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, political science equally pertinent field AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in auditing, consulting, policy analysis, or business or process analysis, such as that associated with information technology development, acquisition, or security.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree with concentration in public or business administration, finance, accounting, economics, political science equally pertinent field or a J.D.
