This session will focus on the Cares Act, Federal Program Audits and Risks of Occupational Fraud Facing State and Local Governments. We will discuss the latest updates to Cares Act funding related to audit considerations, usage, and other regulatory matters. We will explores best practices in preparing for and collaborating during your Federal grants audit to minimize the impact and maximize the benefits of the audit process. We will discuss the Risks of Occupational Fraud including common fraud schemes, red flags and indicators. We will focus on how to recognize what internal control activities could have been in place to prevent the fraud from occurring and how to detect the malfeasance earlier.

 

At the end of these sessions, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the latest guidance on CARES funding.
  • Compare best-known strategies used to ensure compliance with CARES funding regulations.

 

Auditee and Auditor Perspectives - Federal Program Audits

  • Discuss key strategies to improve communication and understand of the Federal audit process
  • Implement new actions to increase the benefit of the audit process and reduced uncertainty

 

Risks of Occupational Fraud Facing State and Local Governments

  • List and describe the common fraud schemes
  • List the eight important facts of fraud
  • Identify actual instances of fraud that have recently occurred within state and local governments
  • Identify common red flags and indicators of fraud
  • Recognize what internal control activities could have been in place to prevent the fraud from occurring or detect the malfeasance earlier
